Welcome to the IP Storage Initiative home page! What is IPSI?The SNIA Europe IP Storage Initiative (IPSI) is the sister organization of the IP Storage Forum (IPSF) and focused on driving the broad adoption of IP-based SAN storage solutions in Europe through evangelism, education and promotion. The SNIA Europe IPSI committee works closely with the IP Storage Forum to deliver its message around the world. |

What is IP Storage?
IP Storage has rapidly become a mainstream storage networking technology, offering secure, reliable and flexible new options to customers. IP Storage solutions can complement and extend existing SAN environments, or provide affordable new SAN storage solutions in parts of the IT infrastructure still dominated by direct-attached storage. IP Storage solutions allow organizations to maximize existing IT investments while deploying more effective and efficient data management solutions.
Three core IETF-ratified block storage protocols may be the basis of IP Storage solutions:
- CIP is a TCP/IP-based tunnelling protocol for connecting geographically distributed Fibre Channel SANs
- iFCP is a TCP/IP-based protocol for interconnecting Fibre Channel storage devices or Fibre Channel SANs using an IP infrastructure in conjunction with, or in place of, Fibre Channel switching and routing elements
- SCSI is a TCP/IP-based SCSI protocol for establishing and managing connections between IP-based storage devices, hosts and clients. iSCSI enables the deployment of IP-based SANs
