Virtualization promises significant dollar savings. Since reducing cost is perhaps the biggest goal in today's corporate data centers, it's no wonder that virtualization efforts are accelerating. So far it's been easy to virtualize commodity servers that host less-critical utility applications. But after virtualizing all this "low-hanging fruit," IT now has to successfully virtualize higher-priority I/O intensive applications such as Exchange, SQL server, Oracle or SAP to improve its return on investment. Performance is critical for these business applications, and ensuring production performance when they become virtualized is a difficult challenge. IT shops fooled by common virtualization management myths can't properly manage virtual enterprise infrastructure comprised of both clustered host servers and SAN- based storage

The session will explore basic concepts of HA; move through a sample configuration from end-to-end; investigate HA and virtualization, converged networks and the cloud; and discuss some of the challenges and pitfalls faced in testing HA configurations. Real customer experiences will be shared to drive it all home!

Storage Virtualization is one of the buzzwords in the industry, especially with the near-ubiquitous deployment of Storage Networks. But besides all hype, there is a lot of confusion, too. Companies are using the term virtualization and its characteristics in various and different forms. This tutorial describes the reasons and benefits of virtualization in a technical and neutral way

The data center of the future is possible today for IT environments that are willing to create an architecture that leverages technology where appropriate. This session is designed for storage administrators and storage architects. We will explore the business and technology changes necessary to transform existing data center's into efficient, service oriented operations that leverage existing infrastructure.

A frank discussion about advanced features within storage systems and how they can be used to optimize a virtual server infrastructure. These advanced features include snapshots, flash, SSD, de-dupe, and de-dupe aware cache and how they can solve problems such as boot storms, instant Virtual Machine cloning and deployments, and space optimization.
