Hitachi Data Protection Suite Provides Backup, Recovery, Replication, Archive and Search in a Single Solution to Improve Efficiency in Virtualized Environments
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — October 19, 2010 — Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today unveiled key enhancements to its data management offering, Hitachi Data Protection Suite (HDPS). Powered by CommVault’s award-winning data management and protection software, HDPS is the only enterprise data protection software suite on the market that is built from the ground up on a single Windows-based engine to help customers improve their data protection capabilities. It can be used for recovery, continuous data replication, and data deduplication to manage data in virtualized environments. The new enhancements to HDPS reduce costs and improve storage operations, efficiency, service levels and business continuity for customers of all sizes.
“Organizations everywhere are being challenged to keep up with rapidly growing volumes of data, shrinking back-up windows, and increasing demands for data availability,” said Asim Zaheer, vice president, Corporate and Product Marketing, Hitachi Data Systems. “Our new Hitachi Data Protection Suite addresses these challenges by setting new standards for protecting the continuum of data from physical to virtual – including data that resides in the cloud. With modern data management, we are also extending the benefits of our hardware and software solutions to give customers unprecedented control over their mission-critical information.”
Hitachi Data Protection Suite meets the demand for enhanced data protection by using disk to disk technology (D2D) during backup and recovery operations – a proven method for improving reliability, reducing backup windows, and ensuring rapid recoveries. By using disk, customers achieve greater data throughput performance, universal data availability, improved data protection, management, replication and recovery, while benefiting from reduced mechanical and human errors.
“Companies today are demanding new approaches to data and information management that help them address the challenges presented by rapidly changing business needs. CommVault’s software delivers on this by unifying all vital information on a single policy based platform that drives down costs, reduces risk and improves operational efficiency,” said David West, vice president, Marketing and Business Development, CommVault. “With many new features, the latest version of Hitachi Data Protection Suite will now be able to deliver greater virtualization, source-side deduplication and unique application integration management across complex, heterogeneous storage networks.”
In addition to extending data management and protection options for customers, HDPS optimizes tiered storage by providing file level data movement from one tier of storage to another for uninterrupted access to business critical information. HDPS offers more powerful cataloging, indexing, moving, and archiving for unstructured data in non-compliance environments to help organizations manage complex information governance issues. It also provides global deduplication from the source and target, enhancements to virtualization, greater scalability, automated discovery, retention compliance and easier installation. These enhancements, coupled with remote office, virtual server and endpoint protection, enable customers to improve service levels, reduce costs and ease data management and protection.
