Technology Initiatives

The Technology Initiatives have been established by the Board of Directors in order to implement education programmes in key areas of technology and solutions development. They work with the programme committees and maintain a liasion to the SNIA technology forums in the US, where standards and best practices in these areas are being developed.

Cloud Storage

euro-cs@snia.org

SNIA launched the Cloud Storage Initiative in October this year, and from the standing-room only attendance at SNW Europe sessions on cloud storage, this promises to be a topic that will dominate throughout 2010.

The SNIA CSI is responsible for coordinating and driving all SNIA activities related to cloud storage, including education, technical development, business development, marketing and implementation. As an example, the CSI will promote and extend the draft Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI), develop new tutorials, and publish a joint white paper with the Open Grid Forum (OGF) focused on cloud storage for cloud computing.

Data Management

The Data Management Initiative works in conjunction with the US Data Management Forum to educate the market about three key areas of data management: Data Protection (including Data deduplication), Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) and Long Term Archive and Compliance Storage Initiative (L-TACSI).

Green Storage

The Green Storage Initiative works in conjunction with the GSI in the US to educate the market best practices for energy efficient storage networking, educating the vendor and user community, and promoting storage-centric applications that reduce storage footprint and associated power requirements.

Ethernet Storage

esi-europe-chair@snia.org

The Ethernet Storage Europe works in conjunction with the Ethernet Storage Forum in the US. The ESF accomplishes its mission through IT educational initiatives, delivered through industry events and SNIA events around the globe. In addition, the ESF creates marketing collateral materials covering features and benefits, deployment scenarios and examples, and best practices for Ethernet-connected storage networking technologies and solutions, and has an extensive media presence involving interviews, opinion pieces and contributed articles which are delivered all around the world.

Solid State Storage

SSSI-europe-liaison@snia.org

The Solid State Storage Initiative serves as the European liaison group to the US initiative created by the SNIA to addresses marketing outreach and education to become the recognized authority for storage made from solid state devices, and to educate the vendor and user communities about storage made from solid state devices.

Storage Management
.

SMI-europe-chair@snia.org

The Storage Management Initiative serves as the European liaison group to the US Storage Management Forum, created by the SNIA to develop and standardise a highly functional and interoperable management interface for multi-vendor storage networking products to enable and streamline the integration of large and diverse multi-vendor storage networks.

Storage Security

ssif-europe-liaison@snia.org

The Storage Security Industry Initiative serves as the European liaison to the Storage Security Industry Forum (SSIF) in the US helping storage professionals, security professionals, security practitioners, and academics work together to contribute to a better understanding of storage security and how it applies in your organization.

XAM

XAM-europe-liaison@snia.org

The XAM initiative serves as the European liaison group to the US XAM Initiative, created by the SNIA to develop and implement XAM product interoperability programs; XAM developer programs; XAM standard product conformance programs, and industry education materials.
